Celebrating Excellence in Suicide Prevention Research

The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) is delighted to announce the winners of the poster and lightning sessions at the 11th Asia Pacific Conference in Bangkok in June 2024. This year’s event showcased an array of groundbreaking research aimed at highlighting the diverse perspectives in the Asia Pacific region.

We congratulate our winners on the following presentations:

2024 Poster Winner:
  • Dr Panomporn Phoomchan and Ruktawee Mahanin – The Happiness from Long-term Volunteering. The Samaritans of Thailand: A Suicide Prevention Charity Organisation Hotline Service Provider.
Joint 2024 Poster Runner Up:
  • Dr Yu Cheng Hsu – Does poor people living in affluent area increase their suicide risk? A natural experiment and ecological study from Hong Kong 2012 to 2021.
  • Jiali Wang – Feasibility and Acceptability of Community-Based Participatory Social Support in Preventing Suicide among Older Adults in Rural China.
2024 Lightning Poster Winner:
  • Nikolaj Hoier – The association between hypnotics and suicide: a nationwide cohort study.
2024 Lightning Poster Runner Up:
  • RoseAnn Droesch – Rethinking suicide prevention for racial and ethnic minoritized trauma survivors: A population health approach.

The IASP 11th Asia Pacific Conference has once again demonstrated the vital importance of collaborative research and innovation in the field of suicide prevention. The winning presentations highlighted the diversity and depth of current research, from community-based interventions to national cohort analyses.

Winners were presented with registrations for the IASP 33rd World Congress in Vienna in 2025 and the runners-up were presented with a 1-year online membership to IASP. We congratulate all the winners and participants for their outstanding contributions and look forward to seeing them at the IASP 33rd World Congress in Vienna. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Scientific Committee and our dedicated poster judges for their invaluable contributions.
