Using sensitive language around suicide is crucial for reducing stigma and promoting understanding and supportive environments, yet we recognise that this can be challenging for those communicating in a second or additional language, where cultural and linguistic nuances may vary. The IASP language guidelines aim to guide inclusive, non-stigmatising language in a way that respects diverse linguistic backgrounds, encouraging rather than vilifying speakers as they adopt preferred terminology.
