Cycle Around the Globe Returns for 2024

The global community gears up for World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 with the return of Cycle Around the Globe, the annual event from the International Association for Suicide Prevention. The virtual cycling event, aimed at advocating suicide prevention, has garnered widespread participation and support since its inception, drawing attention to a critical issue affecting millions worldwide.

Each year, more than 700,000 people take their own life around the world. For every suicide, there are many more people who attempt suicide and millions of people suffer intense grief or are otherwise profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviours. However, by raising awareness, reducing the stigma around suicide and encouraging well-informed action, we can reduce instances of suicide around the world.

Cycle Around the Globe offers participants a platform to make a difference by actively engaging in the conversation on suicide prevention. The global event provides an opportunity for individuals to challenge themselves while contributing to a meaningful cause. Participants can utilise various features to enhance their experience and impact. They have the option to challenge friends, family, and colleagues, fostering healthy competition through online leaderboards. Moreover, by connecting their Strava accounts, participants can automatically contribute their cycling distances to the global effort.

IASP wants to enable global participation, which is why the event is entirely free to join, and fundraising is entirely optional. Participants have the option to initiate fundraising campaigns, enabling them to raise funds in support of suicide prevention initiatives. Through these efforts, the event not only raises awareness but also generates crucial resources.

IASP encourages participants to share their personal stories and images, leveraging social media platforms to inspire and motivate individuals worldwide. By amplifying the global conversation on suicide prevention, participants play a vital role in fostering understanding, empathy, and support for those affected by suicidal behaviors.
