For Communities
Here are some examples of how you can change the narrative on suicide over World Suicide Prevention Day and take these conversations through into our daily life.
- Organise events
Organise awareness-raising events such as seminars, workshops, webinars, or a community walk to educate people about mental health, signs of suicidal ideation, and supporting those in need. You could also organise memorial events that honour those lost to suicide and provide a space for shared grief and support.
- Provide resources
Consider developing pamphlets, posters, and online content that provide information on local or accessible mental health services, hotlines, and crisis centres. Existing websites (e.g. Find a Helpline) and apps that offer mental health resources and support can also be promoted during events.
- Create safe spaces
Facilitate regular support group meetings, create forums (both online and in-person), and develop programs for young people so that individuals in distress can openly discuss mental health issues in a non-judgmental environment and access the support they need.
