World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 in Berlin, Germany

September 10 @ 12:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

On World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, people around the world come together to create a world in which fewer people die by suicide.

This year, we are focusing on suicide prevention for men. Sadly, 297 men per year have recently taken their own lives in Berlin, accounting for around two thirds of all suicides in the city. This shocking statistic demostrates how urgent it is to break the silence and promote a culture of openness, understanding and support.

To draw attention to the issue and commemorate the deceased, 297 shirts will be laid out around the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church from 12 noon. In addition, Berlin support services from the Network for Suicide Prevention Berlin will be presenting their services at information stands from 12 noon.

From 1:30 p.m. on, suicide prevention professionals have the opportunity to attend a specialist impulse on suicide prevention for men with lectures, panel discussions and workshops.

A church service on the topic will take place at 6 o’clock.

To conclude World Suicide Prevention Day in Berlin, bestselling author Martin Schäuble will read from his book “Alle Farben grau” (All Colors Grey) from 8 p.m. onwards.

We are delighted that the German Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Karl Lauterbach, has taken on the patronage of the event.
