ECR Events at IASP 2019, Derry

In this edition of Engage we ask researchers how they work together to prevent suicide – check it out!
ECR Keynote – IASP Congress, Derry
The ECG will be hosting an ECR keynote at the upcoming IASP Congress in Derry (www.iasp2019.com/). We want to invite ECRs to give a 20 minute presentation, expanding upon their pre-accepted abstract.
Who can apply?
ECRs with an accepted oral presentation. For the purposes of this event, ECRs are defined as PhD students/residents/or postdocs within 5 years of receiving their PhD and who do not have a tenured/permanent faculty position.
How do I apply?
Please submit an extended version of your already accepted abstract, which should be no more than 400 words. The abstract should be emailed as a Word document to Research@iasp.info by Monday 2nd September at 5pm CEST.
ECG-led Lunch with Experts – IASP Congress, Derry
On Wednesday September 18th from 12:30-13:30 we will be hosting a lunch with experts. This session is an informal session whereby we will openly discuss two topics applicable to ECRs in the area of suicidology. The session is open to all so do join us! (Panel to be announced shortly)
The topics we will be discussing include:
1) Ethical considerations in suicide research: engaging patients, sharing data and informing participants of findings, and 2) Any fun in funding? Stepping into the world of research grants.
ECR Social Gathering, in collaboration with nerECR – IASP Congress, Derry
Come and meet other ECRs at our social gathering on Thursday September 19th from 18:30-21:00. Venue is in progress!
Want to be the new ECG co-Chair?
Carl is stepping down as the current ECG co-Chair, which means there is room for another! Since the current ECG co-Chairs all represent Zone 1 member countries, we would like to specifically, but not exclusively encourage members of Zones 2,3 and 4 to apply to join the ECG Chair team, thus ensuring that the ECG Chair team is representative of the the diversity of its members.

ECG WSPD Cycle Around the Globe
The IASP ECG have a cycle team and you too can join! Team members will cycle anytime between September 10th and October 10th any distance in the gym or at home and collate their kilometers as a team. ECG WSPD Edition of Engage
The ECG are coordinating a WSPD Engage edition! We are reaching out to you to ask you how you are working collaboratively to prevent suicide. To pack up this edition we would love if you could submit a short paragraph to us reflecting on the theme of WSPD 2019 ‘Working together to prevent suicide’, detailing if and how your work meets this objective. To contribute please send your piece to Caroline at Research@iasp.info.

ECG Task Forces
The ECG is currently working on 2 active Task Forces which focus on:
- The Emotional Health and Wellbeing of ECRs working in Suicide Research, and
- The Inclusion of Registered Reports in Journals of Suicide Research.

World Suicide Prevention Day 2018
World Suicide Prevention Day took place on September 10th! Hundreds of events, spanning across the globe took place to mark WSPD2018, including the Light a Candle event, and the annual Cycle Around the Globe. You can review events which took place on the WSPD website: iasp.info/wspd2018/!
On this day we also hosted our own Twitter ECG event on Challenges to the emotional health of researchers and approaches to address these.

We recently hosted our first live Twitter Q&A on January 23rd from 3-4pm GMT time.
