Protocol for Responding to Global and Cross-National Public Health Emergencies and Natural Disasters
In April 2020, the then IASP President, mindful of IASP’s leading role as an international suicide prevention organisation, in furtherance of the organisation’s central mission, and in response to the threats to global mental health and the risk of suicidal behaviour resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, established a Presidential Special Task Force on COVID-19 (PSTFC).
The purpose of the PSTFC was to develop IASP’s strategic response to the potential global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on suicidal behaviour, suicidal ideation and self-harm by developing IASP’s strategic response to the potential global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on suicidal behaviour, suicidal ideation and self-harm.

This protocol has been informed and developed on what we have learnt to date from COVID-19 and will be continued to be informed by the challenges we are all encountering in the impact of this pandemic.
