Prof. Diego De Leo is the head of Slovene Centre for Suicide Research and Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia where he directed the Australian Institute of Suicide Research and Prevention (AISRAP) [1998-2015]. At AISRAP he is Director Emeritus of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Suicide Prevention. Past President of both the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the International Academy for Suicide Research (IASR) (which he co-founded), he has successfully established and managed high-level international collaborations. Past Editor in Chief of the journal CRISIS, his research expertise includes definitional issues in suicidology, old age suicide, culture and suicide, international trends and national suicide prevention programs. He received numerous world renowned awards for his scientific work. His bibliography includes over 420 peer-reviewed articles and 180 book chapters.
In 2013, Professor De Leo was appointed as an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia, awarded for “distinguished service to medicine in the field of psychiatry as a researcher and through the creation of national and international strategies for suicide prevention.”
