Dr Innocent H. Peter is a medical doctor and cancer researcher from Tanzania. He joins the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) Early Career Group to focus on suicide prevention among healthcare workers, addressing the rising suicide rates that threaten an already fragile healthcare workforce and undermine global health equity goals, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). His work underscores the need for evidence-based strategies to strengthen mental health systems among the healthcare workforce as they are key pillars of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and health equity.

Dr Peter is passionate about empowering young African scientists to engage in mental health research and advocacy, with a particular focus on the well-being of healthcare professionals. He serves as a Study Coordinator at Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute, leading cutting-edge cancer research initiatives and mental health research among the oncology workforce.
