Vice President 2025-2026

Dr Sandersan Onie is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Black Dog Institute, UNSW Sydney, Australia, and an Adjunct Professor at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, Indonesia. As the lead for the Indonesian Suicide Prevention Strategy, he founded and is the President of the Indonesian Association for Suicide Prevention (INASP) and led the development and signing of the world’s first unified religious statement on mental health and suicide at the G20 2022 – an event for which he was awarded a Guinness World Record. He is currently working with the Ministry of Health and WHO to introduce suicide prevention into a national health bill, which, if passed, would lead to suicide prevention being included in national law for the first time in Indonesia’s history.

In another research stream, he utilises internet advertisements for a rapid, tailored, and scalable way to reach individuals searching for suicide-related keywords, having conducted trials in the US, Australia, and Indonesia. This research led to him being invited as a TEDxSydney speaker, featured in a Forbes magazine article, and is now working with advertising industry leaders to implement this research in Australia across multiple platforms.
